EVEN IN THE MIST
I have spent the last couple of days on the Coromandel having a break and planning for 2010.
Saturday was a brilliant day and Great Mercury Island was spread across the horizon. Sunday the fog and rain came in. Great Mercury was obscured from view and it was as though it didn't exist. By late morning the fog lifted and there it was, where it had always been, where it will always be.
Our work is sometimes like that. There are issues or tasks right in front of us but often they get obscured by the mist of what is put in front of us hour by hour. In handling these apparently urgent and immediate tasks we may not see the bigger picture. The hour by hour tasks, the minute by miniute reactions have our heads down and we may risk the real target. Keep your focus on the big picture - your real target.
