This week insight is a personal lesson rather than a real estate one and I hope you enjoy it.

Last week I caught up with a friend who I hadn't seen for about 6 months.

It is a friendship which spans many years and  always has that feeling of "old times" on these occasions. After a catch up on what had been happening in our lives he told me that he was moving on from his current role. He had been informed it was time to move on as the company was looking to bring "young blood" into the business.

My friend is almost 60, fit healthy, very experienced and wise in his field.

I was surprised and disappointed to hear that the "chronological age" was being assessed.

It is indeed interesting that his greater wisdom, skill, understanding and emotional maturity were being traded for youth.

I related something to him which I had recently read about.

An executive had been asked to retire when he reached the age of 65.

Rather than being despondent he decided he would treat this as a step forward in his life education. He was an amateur photographer, and he upskilled in this area.

He booked a trip around the world and took movies of famous places. He ended up giving many lectures before various groups and loved it.

The lesson I learnt from this was that everyone has something to offer and should be respected no matter what age. What you give comes back to you tenfold.
