Hi again

Recently I have had the pleasure of working with several new clients. All of them have come to me because they have faced at least 1 of a fairly common set of issues.

1 Falling profits,

2 Falling Turnover or Sales,

3 The need to upskill themselves or their people,

4 The realization that what they are doing is not working

5 Their resistance to Business Planning and avoiding personal Accountability to that plan was costing them.

6. They didn’t know how to create a workable plan from their vision.

To support their view and to encourage them to move forward with the adoption of some new strategies I have shared this quote with them.

Frank Merlotti of Steelcase, Inc., describes why his company is always changing, always trying to do better.

“We kept saying we were the best. Then, we started thinking, maybe the best time to start making changes and try something different is when we are on top rather than waiting until we are in trouble and then trying to claw our way back up. We talked about the Old Frog Syndrome: If you throw a frog into a pot of boiling water he jumps out, but if you put a frog in a pot of cold water and heat it slowly, he’ll sit there and boil to death. We didn’t want to get boiled.”

Lately it’s been very busy and I have never seen so much willingness to adopt new ideas and to consider new strategies. It’s been exciting too watching people grow their businesses whilst others complain about the environment. The best observation about them is that they have created their own view of the business environment and they choose to dwell in it. Whilst they do it leaves even more opportunities for those willing to step beyond the stale practices and habits.
